Mermaid Madness Blog Hop with StencilGirl

Hi and welcome to the StencilGirl Mermaid Madness Blog Hop!

It’s such a joy to take part in this event. There’s something so magical about the sea. The smell. the sound, the feel of the sand between my toes. It all speaks to me on a deep level.

For this page I used the Love Mermaid stencil, an assortment of paints, gesso, my art journal, some misc fishnet-like embellishment and of course, more stencils! You can use an assortment to create texture and movement on your page. I used: Random Circles, Shoreline Mini, and Rolls.

After giving my page a quick coat of gesso i began building layers a little at a time. I used an assortment of blue, mint & teal paints and ink inks. I also added in some gold to mimic the color of sand. Without really waiting for anything to dry, I started sponging on white through my stencils to create texture.

To add some depth and dimension to my page, I darkened it towards the bottom. The gradual process of getting my background to where I wanted it was one of creating layers, covering them up, and adding more back in.

Once I stenciled on my mermaid I painted in her body and face with flesh tone paint, gave her some makeup, and added a some shading details.

To finish things off, I cut the vinyl embellishment that I picked up at the craft store to size and stamped a sentiment on old book paper.

I adhered both to my page with gel medium.

And done my journal page was complete.

Thank you for posting pics throughout your art process. I’m an analogue girl, and I love seeing the step by step nature of the art. I can print this out, study it and try to duplicate it. Absolutely love how you presented it. (Yes, people post videos on the tube, but for me, and probably a few others, this step by step process is greatly appreciated!)

    Thank you!

Thank you, Gailee. I too, sometimes find it a bit easier to have a printed reference.

This is amazing. I love the way the background process came together for such a beautiful layered look providing the deeper depth at the bottom. Your addition of the mesh added that perfect contrast to balance out the work and add a bubbly look. I love the mermaid you chose and she stands out perfectly with a loving look. The quote is awesome and the book paper was am amazing choice to add more depth to the image. I love what everyone is doing with their mermaids and love this choice of imagery. She is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your process. She is a fun mermaid and mystical. ❤❤❤ ( boley_1 (at) yahoo dot com)
