“Currently”, In My World of Whimsy

Hello lovelies. Art and Whimsy here with something a little bit different for you today. I don’t normally share a whole lot of personal info on social media. Mainly because, despite my social media presence, I’m a fairly private person. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to have a decent social media following at the same time. Yes, my personal life is private, but I can still post things now and again. In fact, there is nothing stopping me from looking for an instagram growth service to help me gain more followers on this platform if I really needed to. I have also been reading about Instagram bots. Again, I can still keep my life private whilst building an Instagram following and an Instagram bot will make it a whole lot easier and less time consuming. I have heard rumours about an Upleap scam, but it turns out that isn’t true, so I may consider Upleap. To be honest, just having these options is good enough for me, as if I want to post more things on social media, I will already have the followers to check it out. But I don’t go out of my way to post as I really didn’t think that my everyday life would be something of interest to anyone outside of my immediate circle.

However, as it turns out, I’m getting more questions on Instagram and Facebook from people who just want to know random bits of info about my day to day. There’s no feature of it so far because I haven’t actually decided on what picture I want, but I’m soon thinking to change my processes a little bit such as looking to make your own diamond painting or similar, just for a little bit of difference when being creative. I thought this might be a good opportunity for me to open up a bit more and give you a peek into what’s currently going on in my colorful world of whimsy. So, here we go…

I’m Currently:

Obsessed With:

Planner bows and charms from DaintyKayPlans on Etsy. Seriously, these bows make me swoon, they’re so pretty. Tammy Kay does a gorgeous job with them and I love seeing them clipped onto my TNs.

Distress Oxides from ranger Ink and creating art tags. I purchased the first 12 colors of Oxides when they first came out a few months back and now I’m anxiously awaiting the delivery of the next 12 colors that I have on pre-order from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

And of course, I’m still thoroughly obsessed with all things Frida Kahlo related, including the stunning Sandra Everston stamps from RubberMoon. If you’re a Frida fan, you’ll definitely want to check these out!

I’m Currently:

Working On:

I’m currently working on wrapping 10 prezzies for the #craftyplannergirlswap on Instagram, hosted by Florence Antonette. My swap partner is the sweet Kanani of Studio L2E and I’ve had such a great time shopping & wrapping these gifts.

Planning In:

So many planners & TNs, so little time! I’m currently planning in my No. 4 Mochi Foxy Fix that’s adorned with this gorgeous charm from PoshPiecesByMelissa on Etsy

Following on Instagram:

I follow lots of wonderful artists and Instagram feeds, but these are a few of the ones that I currently find myself frequently checking to see if they’ve posted.

soul_positive – I just adore Kristi and her feed. It’s filled with bright colors, inspiring words, and the many wonderful tags that she creates.

positivelypresent – This one just makes me smile. It’s all about positivity, awareness and self love.

travelwiththe1407 – Because they carry the cutest monthly traveler’s notebook kits, in like the history of Ever!

stencilgirl_products – Not only am I on their design team, I am a HUGE fan of their stencils. They have tons of fabulous artists that have designed stencils for them and many talented people to use them, so their feed is frequently filled with loads of painty inspiration.

I’m a total gamer girl. Love nights when Patrick stay in with a good game and play until the wee hours. Right now we’re playing Secret World Legends. It’s the updated version of Funcom’s RPG, The Secret World. In game I’m basically a blade wielding, fire throwing, bad ass chick who’s fighting in a secret war of good vs evil as supernatural forces threaten the modern-day world. Good times, good times.

I love to read, always have. I enjoy many different genres but lately I’ve really been into dystopian sci-fi and fantasy. Currently, I’m working my way through the Nightside series by Simon R. Green but I’ll take a break from this series as soon as I’m done with my current book to read the next installment in the Sandman Slim series by Richard Kadrey.

Listening to:

I’m currently listening to a new podcast… Starving For Attention.

It’s basically a glimpse into the world of food, with Chef Richard Blaise and his wife Jazmin. It features back-of-house conversations with anyone and everyone in the culinary industry.

For someone that spends so much of her time with her boyfriend, talking about food, researching their next great meal, discussing chefs and foodie-ish things like the merits of eating with all of your senses, not to mention being a big time fangirl of Chef Richard Blais, this podcast is right up my alley.

(Did I tell you about the time he gave me a high-five at his restaurant, Juniper & Ivy for taking a photo of him taking a photo of Chef Anthony Wells??) Total #foodiefangirl moment!

Stocking In My Etsy Shop:

After selling out the first time around, I’ve finally restocked more Creative Collage Packs in my Etsy Shop. These are great for art journaling, collage and various other mixed media projects. Hope you’ll drop by for a look. I do run a small business, which is something that I am very passionate about. As the business recently sold out of collage packs, I had to restock them. Hopefully, people will buy these too. As a small business, it can be difficult to get website traffic on my store. However, one of my friends told me that I could always look into some seo services if I wanted more people to visit my e-commerce store. Perhaps that’s something that I should look into, especially now that I’ve restocked.

Thanks for joining me as I share a peek into my world. If you’ve found anything of interest here, please feel free to leave a comment or send me a message.

Wishing you a beautiful week,

XO, Belen

Fall Into Planning

Well it’s official, I’m a card-carrying planner addict and have fallen for the planner craze like a love struck teenager! With Fall upon us, a new Filofax Original A5 Patent Fuchsia waiting to be moved into and an unopened September Planner Society kit, I recently found time to play.

2015-10-03 09.20.24

The first order of business was to create some laminated dividers and a dashboard. I selected some pretty colors that would go with the patent fuchsia, but still carry me through Fall.

2015-10-04 14.12.46

Originally, this A5 was going to be my daily planner, a place for me to track my dailys, like To-do lists, shopping lists, fitness, etc so I created these custom inserts. I quickly found that since I wasn’t carrying this planner around with me, it wasn’t a system that was going to work for me. I’d find myself out in the world wondering what I was supposed to pick up at the grocery store, while the shopping list sat in my pretty planner at home!

Just last weekend I reformatted these inserts for a personal Kate Spade that I love and carry around with me everywhere, but I’ll blog about that at a later date.

2015-10-03 11.34.26

I used a few of my own planner clips, ones that I carry in my Etsy shop,  and some of the yummy items in the September Planner Society kit, including that awesome hand sketched planner girl card that I turned into a dashboard, to prettify my planner and give it that lived in feeling.

2015-10-04 09.46.46

“Why have 1 planner dashboard when you can have many” is what I say, so I made another using more of that ridiculously cute Planner Society paper and embellished it with stickers die cuts from the kit. I even cut out one of the sketched girls, gave it a splash of watercolor, laminated it and created a custom planner clip!

Thanks for reading and sharing in my original A5 set up.

Ready, Set, List! September 2015

Hello Listers! Today I’d like to share my list book with you, it’s what I’ll be using come September 1st for the 30 Days of Lists challenge. I’ll also share a peek at the area where I’ll be doing my listing.

This is my 4th round of 30 Days of Lists and I’ve used different base styles, including a handcrafted mixed media list book and a couple of different versions of pocket style scrapbook bases. I have a passion for mixed media, so I really enjoy being able to incorporate that into my listing.2015-08-22 11.53.33

This time I’ve decided to list in my Traveler’s Notebook style planner, using a fusion of scrapbook and mixed media elements, it’s the best of both worlds for me!

2015-08-22 12.04.36

The sweet leather “Pink Lemonade” planner that will house my list book is by Onica Hanby. I highly recommend her shop if you’re looking for a fauxdori. Good quality leather and her attention to detail makes for some gorgeous planners.

2015-08-16 11.09.16

Using a mixed media insert from Yellow Paper House, I decorated the outside of my list book by layering one of my gelli prints, some music sheet paper and a few other painty bits. Journal cards from my stash were added for layering and a couple of other elements that I created with my Silhouette, like the “listing nerd glasses” and a few 30 Lists paper clips finished it off.

2015-08-22 10.56.48

I realize that I’m so very fortunate to have a dedicated art room where I can indulge in my passion for making pretty things. After a grueling work day, I enjoy coming in here to unwind, get my fingers nice & painty, make some lists or just play in my planners.

I recently spent some time prettifying & organizing the desk area in my studio, this is where I’ll be doing the majority of my listing. I set it up so that my most used listing and planning supplies are within easy reach.

One of the main things that I enjoy about 30 Days of Lists, aside from it being tons of fun, is that it’s fast. In just a few minutes I can get a creativity fix to either jump-start my day in the right direction, or help me distress after a long one.

For this round of listing I have the pleasure of being not only a participant, but a sponsor and affiliate as well. If want to join in on the fun, but haven’t registered yet, there’s still time! Just click on the image above and it’ll take you to the registration page.

Another aspect that I really enjoy about 30 Days of Lists is reading all of your lists and seeing what you create. I’ll be posting my lists to the private Facebook group as well as Instagram and Pinterest, via my blog. I’d love it if you’d follow along!

See you on September 1st!

Making Art Sticker Tags!

I love creating tags, each one is its own mini canvas. I like to use them to adorned packages and gifts and they’re the perfect size to slip into an envelope and send off to a friend.

If you have a die cutting machine and appropriate die, or even a Silhouette, tag making is a great way to use up some of those gelli prints! If you have neither, no problem, scissors or an X-Acto knife and a ruler will do the trick.

Here, I used my Big Shot, Tim Holtz Tag Dies and my new Rectangle Art Stickers to create a tag to include in happy mail.

2015-06-10 18.13.12

Already having a gelli print base to work with made this really fast to create. A few doodles, scraps of book paper, some ink, ribbon, and an art sticker and it’s done.

These art stickers are available in my Etsy shop, HERE.

Quick and Easy Gift Card Sleeve

I think we’ve all been there at some point, needing a quick, last minute gift for someone, but wanting to make it a little more fun that simply handing them a plastic card.

Here I used one of my round art stickers, available in my Etsy Shop, to create a quick and easy gift card sleeve in just minutes. You could also use some vsco stickers to help cater to the personal hobbies of the giftee. That way it still has a really personal feel!

2015-06-10 18.52.50L

I added a bit of washi to the card itself to form a pull tab, decorated the sleeve with gel pen doodles and a bit of stamping then called it done!

2015-06-07 13.45.17

There are so many fun & easy uses for these round stickers, feel free to drop by my shop and pick up a set. ArtandWhimsyCreates on Etsy.
