Happy New Year from Art & Whimsy

Hello lovelies! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. It’s been a while since I blogged but I wanted to take a moment to wish you a Happy New Year and to thank each and every one of you for your support and inspiration, both here and on social media.

It’s been quite a year with some fun opportunities presenting themselves to Art & Whimsy. I look forward to being able to share more about them at a later date, so stay tuned.

For 2017 I’ve decided to take part in the Joggles Art Journal Adventure, which is a prompt based, weekly art journal challenge. it looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun and easy to keep up with.

You can  join the 2017 Joggles Art Journal Adventure Facebook group for more info and also check out the 2016 prompts on the Joggles blog.

A few of other things I’m excited about doing in 2017 is digging into these books that I received for Christmas from Patrick.

If you follow me on social media you probably know that I’m a huge fan of Flow Magazine. Well Flow came out with their first ever Mindfulness Workbook! it’s an activity book that revolves around different mindfulness questions and activities. And of course, in true Flow style, it’s full of pretty paper, stickers and gorgeous Flow artwork. You can find it at Barnes and Noble or directly from Flow.

The Flow Book for Paper Lovers is another book I’m eager to dig into. It’s basically an entire book filled with wonderfully illustrated paper, stickers and posters. It’s just perfect for us paper crafters and mixed media artists. This one you can sometimes find at your local Barnes and Noble but if you don’t come across it, they can order it for you. You can also order it from Flow.

The third book is 52 Lists for Happiness. It’s a book for “list lovers everywhere to discover the keys to their own unique happiness and bring more joy and balance into their lives.” . If 52 Lists for Happiness is anything like it’s precursor, The 52 Lists Project it’s sure to become a fun part of my year.

I’m excited to ring in 2017 and see what it has in store for me. I hope you’ll continue to follow along in my adventures and maybe even join in on a few!  I wish you the Happiest New Year ever. Let’s get out there and create new memories!

xoxo,

I’m super happy to announce that registration for 30 Lists is now open. If you follow my blog or follow me on social media, like Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, you know that I love love love participating in this listing event and have done so several times already.

Whether it’s a quick list, jotted down on a notepad between errands, something more elaborate incorporated into an art journal or scrapbook album, or even something that you put together digitally with a photo editing app on your phone, #30Lists is a very doable challenge to keep up with.

If you aren’t familiar with 30 Days of Lists, it’s a bi-annual listing challenge that runs for 30 days in March and September of each year. It costs just $10 and that gives you access to the private blog, the private FB group and some other downloadable goodies. It also gives you access to special discounts and maybe even a giveaway or two that are only open to 30 Day Listers! I know of one Awesome giveaway, prizes supplied by Art & Whimsy! Details will be available on the private #30Lists blog once registration is under way!

The two awesome women that make this event happen are Amy & Kam. What they do is provide us with a daily list prompt and then we make of that prompt what we want. There is no wrong way to list.

Whether it’s a quick list, jotted down on a notepad between errands, something more elaborate incorporated into an art journal or scrapbook album, or even something that you put together digitally with a photo editing app on your phone, #30Lists is a very doable challenge to keep up with.

As much as I would like to have oodles of time to spend getting my art on, it’s just not always possible. Having this listing challenge is a fun way for me to take 10-15 minutes out of my day to get that creative energy flowing. I enjoy doing it in the morning before I head to the office. I find that it really helps start my morning on a positive note.

Let’s List! 30 Days of Lists, Day 1

Today is September 1st and we’re kicking off 30 Days of Lists with our first prompt: “What you might have heard about me”.

2015-09-01 10.16.41

I used the “I Am” line by Simple Stories and added some cute washi from my Planner Society kit.

To make listing a little faster I pre-printed the daily prompts onto clear labels and cut numbers into round labels using my silhouette.

I’m look forward to seeing everyone’s lists and I’m so excited to be sharing in this with you!

Happy Listing!

Ready, Set, List! September 2015

Hello Listers! Today I’d like to share my list book with you, it’s what I’ll be using come September 1st for the 30 Days of Lists challenge. I’ll also share a peek at the area where I’ll be doing my listing.

This is my 4th round of 30 Days of Lists and I’ve used different base styles, including a handcrafted mixed media list book and a couple of different versions of pocket style scrapbook bases. I have a passion for mixed media, so I really enjoy being able to incorporate that into my listing.2015-08-22 11.53.33

This time I’ve decided to list in my Traveler’s Notebook style planner, using a fusion of scrapbook and mixed media elements, it’s the best of both worlds for me!

2015-08-22 12.04.36

The sweet leather “Pink Lemonade” planner that will house my list book is by Onica Hanby. I highly recommend her shop if you’re looking for a fauxdori. Good quality leather and her attention to detail makes for some gorgeous planners.

2015-08-16 11.09.16

Using a mixed media insert from Yellow Paper House, I decorated the outside of my list book by layering one of my gelli prints, some music sheet paper and a few other painty bits. Journal cards from my stash were added for layering and a couple of other elements that I created with my Silhouette, like the “listing nerd glasses” and a few 30 Lists paper clips finished it off.

2015-08-22 10.56.48

I realize that I’m so very fortunate to have a dedicated art room where I can indulge in my passion for making pretty things. After a grueling work day, I enjoy coming in here to unwind, get my fingers nice & painty, make some lists or just play in my planners.

I recently spent some time prettifying & organizing the desk area in my studio, this is where I’ll be doing the majority of my listing. I set it up so that my most used listing and planning supplies are within easy reach.

One of the main things that I enjoy about 30 Days of Lists, aside from it being tons of fun, is that it’s fast. In just a few minutes I can get a creativity fix to either jump-start my day in the right direction, or help me distress after a long one.

30Lists-Click-Here-to-Get-Started

For this round of listing I have the pleasure of being not only a participant, but a sponsor and affiliate as well. If want to join in on the fun, but haven’t registered yet, there’s still time! Just click on the image above and it’ll take you to the registration page.

Another aspect that I really enjoy about 30 Days of Lists is reading all of your lists and seeing what you create. I’ll be posting my lists to the private Facebook group as well as Instagram and Pinterest, via my blog. I’d love it if you’d follow along!

See you on September 1st!

bloghop

September 1st is just around the corner and that means 2 things… my Birthday and 30 Days of Lists. Since they both fall on the same day, that’s cause for celebration!

We’re kicking off the fun today with the 30 Days of Lists Blog Hop!

This is your chance to get to know us sponsors, the ambassadors and even Amy & Kam a little better. It’s also a great opportunity to learn a bit more about 30 Days of lists if you haven’t previously participated.

Whether it’s a quick list, jotted down on a notepad between errands, something more elaborate incorporated into an art journal or scrapbook album, or even something that you put together digitally with a photo editing app on your phone, 30Lists is a very doable challenge to keep up with.

30 Lists is a bi-annual listing challenge that takes place each March and September. All you need is a few minutes each day. It can be so easy to get caught up in life’s frantic pace and forget to take time to sit with our own thoughts. This is a fast and fun way to remedy that. Whether it’s a quick list, jotted down on a notepad between errands, something more elaborate incorporated into an art journal or scrapbook album, or even something that you put together digitally with a photo editing app on your phone, 30Lists is a very doable challenge to keep up with.

If you haven’t already registered, you can do so by clicking on my affiliate link HERE.

For today’s blog hop, Amy & Kam challenged us to create a list using one of the prompts from the March 2011 30 Days of Lists. We’d love to have you join in on the fun. Just select your own list prompt, from the link above, and post it to your blog, Instagram etc, then share your link on the 30 Days of Lists Facebook page, HERE.

Let’s just say that according to my bag, I eat out a lot. 🙂

I decided to go with the “In My Bag” prompt. I will preface this by admitting to not having included the loose change and receipts in my bag, because Yikes! Let’s just say that according to my bag, I eat out a lot. 🙂

March 2015 #30Lists, Day 1

Today was Day 1 of my 30 Days of Lists challenge and our prompt was “Why I make Lists”.

day1

I made this tag using various paints, Derwent watercolor pencils, Ohto Fude Ball pen, a white Uni-ball Signo pen, grungy circle stamps by Dina Wakley and a diamond pattern stencil from my monthly StencilGirl stencil subscription.
