Transparent Valentine’s Day Dashboard

Hi and Happy Monday. We’re already half way through January and in the planner world that means that Valentine’s Day planner set-ups are likely under way. I’m not exception. Today I have a fast and fun Valentine’s Day dashboard tutorial to share with you.

For this project you’ll need a laminator, window clings from the dollar store, laminating pouches and of course a planner. I’m using my In The Moment planner from my My Prima Planner.

First thing you’ll want to do is turn your laminator on and let it warm up.

While that’s heating, grab a laminating pouch and one of the inserts from your planner. Your going to use the insert just as a guide for proper sizing.

Place the insert underneath your laminating pouch then just open your pouch and start placing your window clings inside. Use the insert to help you with placement. Your end product is going to be roughly the same size as your insert.

Once you have everything placed where you want it, close up your pouch and smooth out any air pockets, if there are any.

Run your pouch through the laminator. I like to do the sealed end first. If you’d like, flip it over and run it through your laminator again. Doing so is a matter of personal preference, but I always run it through twice

Next, using your insert again, line up your laminated to judge the size and trim accordingly with your trimmer.

Now take that insert, place it on top of your trimmed dashboard and use the holes as a guide to also punch holes into your dashboard.

Slip it into your planner and there you go, a whimsical Valentine’s Day dashboard to add a little extra pop of fun to your planner.

The Planner Kit shown here is “Heart Day”, available from Le Pink Sprinkles.

I hope you’ve found this tutorial helpful. For more inspiration, follow me on social media!

Wishing you a wonderful week & Happy Planning!

Happy New Year from Art & Whimsy

Hello lovelies! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. It’s been a while since I blogged but I wanted to take a moment to wish you a Happy New Year and to thank each and every one of you for your support and inspiration, both here and on social media.

It’s been quite a year with some fun opportunities presenting themselves to Art & Whimsy. I look forward to being able to share more about them at a later date, so stay tuned.

For 2017 I’ve decided to take part in the Joggles Art Journal Adventure, which is a prompt based, weekly art journal challenge. it looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun and easy to keep up with.

You can  join the 2017 Joggles Art Journal Adventure Facebook group for more info and also check out the 2016 prompts on the Joggles blog.

A few of other things I’m excited about doing in 2017 is digging into these books that I received for Christmas from Patrick.

If you follow me on social media you probably know that I’m a huge fan of Flow Magazine. Well Flow came out with their first ever Mindfulness Workbook! it’s an activity book that revolves around different mindfulness questions and activities. And of course, in true Flow style, it’s full of pretty paper, stickers and gorgeous Flow artwork. You can find it at Barnes and Noble or directly from Flow.

The Flow Book for Paper Lovers is another book I’m eager to dig into. It’s basically an entire book filled with wonderfully illustrated paper, stickers and posters. It’s just perfect for us paper crafters and mixed media artists. This one you can sometimes find at your local Barnes and Noble but if you don’t come across it, they can order it for you. You can also order it from Flow.

The third book is 52 Lists for Happiness. It’s a book for “list lovers everywhere to discover the keys to their own unique happiness and bring more joy and balance into their lives.” . If 52 Lists for Happiness is anything like it’s precursor, The 52 Lists Project it’s sure to become a fun part of my year.

I’m excited to ring in 2017 and see what it has in store for me. I hope you’ll continue to follow along in my adventures and maybe even join in on a few!  I wish you the Happiest New Year ever. Let’s get out there and create new memories!

New Planner Printables

Hey planner girls! I’ve created a few new goodies for my personal sized every day set up and want to share them with you. They can be found on the Free Planner Printables page of the blog. Enjoy!

2016-04-28 07.22.31

Bill Tracker – personal size.

2016-04-28 07.23.06

A new and improved Online Purchase Tracker – personal size.

Guess what… I also have a Silhouette cut file for you today! Since apparently I have some… “issues”… keeping track of my receipts, I created bag style envelopes, with pretty paper of course, to help me keep organized.

If you need to keep business and personal receipts separate you can add labels or tabs for your different categories as needed.

2016-04-28 07.23.38

These can be cut easily with your Silhouette. You’ll just want to download the file, unzip, open with your Silhouette & cut from your choice of pretty paper. To finish it off add some adhesive to the flaps and punch holes to fit your planner. The cut file can also be found on the Free Planner Printables page.

Oh before I forget! I recently added a new version of the Day on 2 pages that I use in my daily set up.  It’s listed as Day On 2 Pages V3. Be sure to check it out.

All planner printables are yours to enjoy, for free. All I ask is

  • Please don’t sell them or try to profit from them in any way
  • Please help me spread kindness. If you come across a fellow planner girl who might benefit from their use, please tell her about my blog and where to find the printables.

Oh! Just one more thing… I would love, love, love it, if when you use the printables and post photos to social media, if you would give me a shout out so I can show your post some love and see my creations in action.

Hugs and happy planning!

Tutorial: Making Transparent Planner Dashboards

I recently shared a photo on Instagram of a transparent planner dashboard that I created as part of my Christmas set up. I offered to film a quick tutorial showing how you can easily create your own if there was enough interest.

Well there definitely was, so as promised I filmed and posted a video to YouTube yesterday. Today I’d like to share that demo with you.

2015-12-12 07.33.02

I’m going to share with you how to create a unique and whimsical transparent dashboard, like this one here, for just a couple of dollars.

If you’d like to skip right to it, the video demo is at the bottom of this post. First I’ll give you some other information and a couple of helpful links.

2015-12-12 07.52.29

To create your dashboard you’ll need a laminator like THIS ONE that I use and some window clings like these you see here. You can find something similar at your local dollar store.

2015-12-12 07.54.28

You’ll also need laminating pouches. I use THESE that I got from Amazon.

2015-12-12 07.57.03

Start by placing your window clings inside the laminating pouch, positioning them to fit the dimensions of your desire dashboard size.

2015-12-12 07.57.58

A handy tip is to use another insert or dashboard as a reference so that you know that your placing your design elements inside the desired dimensions.

2015-12-12 08.01.20

Run your pouch through the laminator. I run it through twice, but that’s a matter of personal preference.

2015-12-12 08.37.32

Next, trim your laminated dashboard down to the size you want.

2015-12-12 08.38.22

Punch holes in your new dashboard. I like to use THIS 6 hole punch.

2015-12-12 08.41.28

And finally, slip it into your dashboard… it’s that easy!

Here’s the video tutorial. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

Happy planning!

Make Your Own Planner Clips In Minutes

Hello & Happy Monday! I have a quick planner clip tutorial to share with you today.

If you’re like me, you love adding pretty things to your planner. Today I’ll show you how you can easily create your own accessories, like planner clips, for just a couple dollars and in a few short minutes.

2015-11-29 13.15.45

The dollar bins at your local craft store are a great place for finding planner goodies. I picked these up at Michaels. They’re wine bottle gift tags and perfect for this.

2015-11-29 13.16.25

Cut out the image that you want to make a clip out of. I like to leave a bit of a border around it, but either way is fine.

2015-11-29 13.17.55

Once your images are cut out, place them into a laminating sheet, per the manufacturer’s instructions. I use a Scotch laminator and sheets that I got from Amazon.

2015-11-29 13.22.35

It’s a personal preference, but I like to run my laminated items through the laminator twice. Once that’s done, trim them out, being careful to leave a bit around the edges so your lamination doesn’t come apart. With your images cut out and laminated, just hot glue a paperclip of your choice onto the back.

2015-11-29 13.24.01

You can give your planner clips a more finished look be covering the hot glue using a piece of felt, cardstock, or something like that.

2015-11-29 13.27.29

Here I used a small, heart shaped punch out and placed it over the still wet, hot glue.

2015-11-29 13.28.46

Lastly, just clean up any threads of hot glue that might be hanging on.

2015-11-29 13.44.43

Add your new clips into your planner and you’re all set… fabulous, affordable and unique planner clips that you created in just minutes!

My Week In Color – Hello Fall!

The October Planner Society Kit is the stuff my dreams are made of and I couldn’t wait to jump right in and decorate my A5 Fuchsia Filofax.

2015-10-28 09.40.05

I used a few Project Life cards from my stash to make laminated dashboards and a set of pretty ribbon paperclips, purchased from Rubies and Grace, that coordinated with the kit beautifully.

2015-10-28 07.31.41For my weekly insert I used one of the free Planner Printables that I offer here on the blog.

20151028_172709

I received my first planner tassel as part of the PSK and couldn’t wait to clip that baby in! I also used a couple of the resin bits that came in the kit and used them to make a flower planner clip.

2015-10-29 09.51.53

After prettifying my weekly A5, my daily Kate Spade needed some lovin’ too so I made a washi card, and used some of the felt flowers in the kit to make 2 rosebud clips (right side). I also added more of those ribbon clips by Grace and Rubies and a couple of cute clips from Peach Pom (left side, fuchsia pom & blue flower). Oh! after watching The Creative Planner, a workshop offered by Christy Tomlinson, I also made my first planner pocket using some of the gorgeous paper from the kit.

Thanks for looking and…

Happy Planning!

Planner Set Up – On the Go In My Kate Spade

A few days ago I introduced you to my A5 Filofax Fuchsia Patent. I LOVE that planner; it’s a beauty and a great size for my home planner. What I found, however, is that it wasn’t really  working for me as a planner to track my dailys since I wasn’t carrying it around with me. I needed something smaller and little more portable. Something I could toss in my bag and carry around with me.

And suddenly there she was and it was love at first sight. Her name is Kate.

IMG_20151010_075817

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a Kate Spade Wellesley planner at the outlet not too far from where I work. To be honest, I went in hoping for a rose gold, but got there minutes after the last one was sold and was a little bummed so I got the black. But now, oh my goodness, I could not be happier with the black one!

The black exterior and the pop of the hot pink interior really lend themselves beautifully to my fondness for bright, bold colors.

I’d never had a zip around closure planner but now, after carrying it around for the last couple of weeks, I find that I’m really loving it. This personal sized planner goes with me everywhere and I like knowing that its contents are safely secured inside.

Having a dedicated place to track all of this information has been a Huge help in my daily pursuit to a better me

I gave some serious though to how I wanted to use this agenda. I knew that I wanted to use it to track my dailys, such as nutrition, fitness, to-do lists, shopping lists and personal growth so I reformatted my custom A5 daily inserts to fit the personal size of this planner. Having a dedicated place to track all of this information has been a Huge help in my daily pursuit to a better me.

2015-10-18 12.55.07

My daily inserts are 2 pages, but I find that I really only use 1 page on the weekends as I don’t have as many errands and to-dos.

2015-10-18 13.06.31IG

While I do keep a monthly overview calendar in here for quick reference, I won’t be doing a lot of actual “planning” in this planner. I’ll be using it as more of a brain dump. A place to jot down notes, random thoughts, inspiration, and also a place to keep track of online purchases and things that pique my interest that I want to research in-depth when I have more time.

2015-10-10 07.25.26

Since we’re already well into October and Dia de Los Muertos is right around the corner, I immediately set about to prettify my Kate Spade with some inserts, a dashboard and a few planner clips. I’m drawn to the imagery and bright colors associated with this holiday and figured that the theme would go well with the hot pink interior color. Side Note:These Day of the Dead clips are currently available in my Etsy shop.

2015-10-10 07.20.34

I needed some stickers to spruce up my inserts so naturally I turned to Etsy and found these cuties by Inky Dinky Printing that coordinated perfectly with my clips… Score!

I’m so beyond pleased with this Kate Spade Wellesley planner and feel that I have finally achieved planner peace, at least for my dailys!

Thanks for reading and as always, I wish you Happy Planning!

xo,

Belen
